Coffee Culture, York
Not unusually for this city, Coffee Culture is squeezed snugly into a tall, thin, rickety building. There are three stories connected by steep staircases. A visit above ground level is not for the faint of heart.
There are a few small tables on the first floor and, at the far end, a window ledge with comfy cushions and a view over bustling Goodramgate. Of all the spots in all the coffee houses in all the world, this is my favourite.

Head up to the second floor to find a smashing sofa and a couple of tables for nattering over a steamy drink.
There is the usual selection of coffees, which are top of the menu. The quality is good, but not amazing, but I don't care, this is just such a lovely place.
Coffee Culture has waiter service so just find a seat and someone will appear promptly to take your order. The staff (including wonderful owners Nick and Annalise) are friendly and chatty, despite spending their days walking up and down those stairs.
It's perfectly decorated and all very unpretentious. The iPod in the background has some great tunes and, if you're hungry as well as thirsty, the food is excellent and good value. Best full English in York!
This is my "local" and favourite. It's the cosiest of coffee shops.
I really ought to take some new photos... these ones are pretty old (from the time of the previous owners).

Welcome to Cosy Coffee Shops, a blog dedicated to seeking out terrific independent coffee houses. Some are particularly comfy and relaxing, some serve outstanding coffee, some have both. Most serve drinks that are ethically sourced (for example, Fairtrade). We've visited everywhere at least once. Read more about this blog...

Best full english in york, hands down! (and you can have a beer too!)
Great staff and service, too.
This is a wonderful little cafe serving one of the best full English breakfasts in the country!
A great coffee shop. Went in during it's first week of opening in my second year at York Uni and loved it ever since. A great cup of coffee, the best bacon roll in York and usually Radio 2 on the speakers. Plus great guys run it!
