McQueen’s, Knaresborough

Most places in Knaresborough are distressingly tea-roomy, as is the case in much of West Yorkshire.

McQueen’s is a “wannabe” coffee house, with “ESPRESSO” and “CAPPUCCINO” written in big print on the windows, but the piles of scones gives it away.

Nevertheless, it’s still an good place to sit with a coffee, especially if you’re swift enough to bag the sofas by the window. The coffee is nothing special but the interior is pleasant, it’s very friendly and there are newspapers to read.

It’s just about enough of a coffee house to be part of this blog.

You are compelty wrong about this cafe.
The coffee is to the highest standard and all the food is homemade and fresh. They get all there meat from the local butchers.
It is always clean friendly and delicious.
It is the best cafe in the area by far.

I totally agree with the comment above, this coffee shop serves wonderful coffee and what is more they cater for people with special dietary requirements ie. non dairy and gluten free, which is extremely rare for a small coffee shop, as I require this I normally have to go to a large chain to get soya milk but now I can go here and I do several times a week. The cafe also gets their vegetables, meat and bread all locally, they make all their own cakes, soups and the best homemade chips you will ever eat!

We like McQueens. As intimated here, Harrogate & Knaresborough are surprisingly free of coffee shops – definitely a market opportunity. Anyway McQueen’s is lovely – friendly, coffee IS good and the cakes are sumptuous. It gets busy, so call early (especially for the comfy seats by the window).

McQueens is definitely the best place in Knaresborough by far !!! The new owners have kept everything in the original spirit – very hospitable and friendly. AND it’s the only place around (other than a specialist market) where you can purchase Porter’s Preserves – they even use the Fiery Butternut and Cracked Black Pepper Preserve in some of their own paninis and sandwich recipes !!!

I find your review of McQueens rather unfair. The coffee is excellent and the food homemade and of the highest standard. It is well used by regulars and visitors alike and the friendly atmosphere created by the staff is brilliant – its like a second home. Nothing is too much trouble and Knaresborough would be the poorer with McQueens!!

I visited Knaresborough not 2 months ago and found your review to be pretty much what I felt it to be. VERY tearoomy and fairly average coffee. No offence intended to the owner but when you have coach loads of pensioners visiting your town its what is expected.

  8. A Local says:

McQueens is great for a coffee and a read, but is also the best place in town for a good breakfast, with a great range from the traditional fry up to a big pile of pancakes or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
The most annoyingly incorrect thing in this article however is that it lists Knaresborough as West Yorkshire, last time I checked both k’boro and harrogate were in North Yorkshire!

  9. Dear “A Local” — you’re spot on about the North / West Yorkshire error. Believe it or not I’m as pedantic as you, but sometimes things slip through the net. I’ll switch categories for Knaresborough and Harrogate entries. Thanks for getting in touch. Tom, Cosy Coffee Shops.
