Milan's Coffee House, Harrogate

Milan's Coffee House, Harrogate Top notcher
This is the biggest coffee house I've ever seen and it's also one of my favourites. It's a haven of coffee in a region stuffed full of tea rooms.

Milan's is on two-and-a-bit floors and divided into four rooms, including "Garden", "Terrace" and "Coffee Lounge". It's just a large house converted to the pursuit of coffee, so it's a fairly literal coffee house.

There is plenty of food on offer and Milan's is licenced. But coffee is the first thing on the menu, and it's so large (it sits 130 people) that there is bound to be space for enjoying a mug of latte in peace. You won't feel out of place even if you just want an espresso at Saturday lunchtime.

There's something for everyone. The Garden room is a bit like a tea room, and the Coffee Lounge would be worthy of a review on its own... it's a delightful little place with old, well worn sofas and a crackling fireside. The only time I've seen a real fireside in a coffee house.

It's well organised too; find a table, choose you order and head back to the counter to pay (don't try to resist the chocolate brownies on display - you will fail). The order is brought to the table.

It's easily the best spot in Harrogate. Forget the queues at Betty's, come here.

Milans is like my second home. I've lost count of the number of times I've gone in at around 11 in the morning and not left until closing time! The cakes are delicious, the lounge is divine, and the service is the best I've found anywhere. I regularly recommend it to all my friends (and some strangers!)
I honestly can't think of a bad word to say about it (well, apart from how busy it gets on Saturdays... but I suppose they view it as a good thing!)

Great place, friendly folk, best coffee (and chocolate) and cakes in town and far more informal than Betty's, Great to relax and read a book or newspaper.
