Caffé Stop, Pickering
|
At the top of Pickering's main street is Caffé Stop, a haven for lovers of coffee and all types of hot drink. If you're arriving in picturesque Pickering on the steam train, look no further than here for a pick-me-up. |
A pink-shirted, bushy-moustached man surveys his coffee shop and chats happily to customers. He looks a little french, and his wonderful coffee shop feels a bit french as well; relaxed and friendly, replete with outdoor tables and plenty of hot drink options.

In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a longer menu. Here is a tiny selection of coffee flavours: cherry tart, coconut cream, sugar daddy, and raspberry truffle. Gaudy to some no doubt, but I don't mind them (I tried the cherry tart latte... delicious!).
And of course there are all the standard coffee options in abundance, plus hot chocolates, smoothies, milkshakes, teas, and decaff varieties of everything. Much of it is Fairtrade, and this is clearly stated on the menu on a drink-by-drink basis.

The owner takes a great deal of pride in this place. The menu, for example, advises customers that drinks take time to prepare (an indication of a really good independent coffee shop).
As expected, there is also food (which is very good), but this is without doubt an ideal spot for just a good mug of coffee.
There are a couple of comfy sofas, daily newspapers, and friendly waiter service.
There is a degree of fun in a visit to Caffé Stop.
It's a refreshing twist on café culture and one of the nicest coffee shops I've visited.
