In the centre of Ilkley is the Avanti Coffee Company, which seems to be the best (and only) coffee shop in town.
A good stop-off point if you’re heading up into the Yorkshire Dales.

This has the indefinable feel of a young person’s coffee shop: chrome surfaces; youthful baristers; neon lighting; the careless mis-spelling of “cappucino”.

That said, it’s a nice place. There are daily papers, outside tables, a couple of comfy chairs and the coffee is fair trade (I assume because of the fair trade signs). The huge windows are good for watching the world pass by… pity the views are limited to walls and a car park.

The usual selection of coffees is available. There are also smoothies, cakes, lunchtime snacks and even beer and wine.

Counter service slowed things down a bit. I wonder why they don’t bring drinks to the table; it wouldn’t be much bother in such a small place.
Still, I’d happily visit again.
