The Titchy Coffee Co., Manchester

A coffee house in a shopping mall. I know what you're thinking..... not very cosy. You're right, but this "100% independent", Fairtrade coffee stall took my eye, and it's worth including here.

Despite the salubrious surroundings of the Triangle (just off Exchange Square), The Titchy Coffee Company has a bit of unique charm... words never before seen in the same sentence as "escalator" and "designer shop".

It really tries to be different. It's called Titchy, for a start. Then there's the coffee, which is entirely Fairtrade. The slogan is "coffee with conscience", and it's proud of its independence. The seating is all "outdoor", in so far as it's not enclosed (it is of course under the roof of the shopping centre).

The plastic chairs and metal tables aren't hugely comfortable, but the service is friendly and the coffee is good. It's counter service with hot drinks and food brought to the table.

It may be the only coffee shop in a shopping mall that will ever be worthy of this blog, so make the most of it!
