Moondogs Art Stop Café, Reading

Moondogs, Reading

Moondogs is a terrific little coffee shop and art gallery; an unexpected oasis of colour on Reading's Oxford Road.

I asked the friendly chap (Craig) if I could take photos and mentioned my hobby coffee house site. I was stunned when he said he'd heard of me... it's humbling to think that I am becomming "known".

So of course I was instantly beguiled by Moondogs and must therefore try hard to be objective.

In fact, Moondogs is a truly beguiling place.

It is, quite simply, a small, photogenic gallery and coffee shop.  The artwork is striking (and for sale), with jewellery on the side.  My coffee was really good, and the hot drinks are at least an equal draw as the eye-catching displays. There are a fair few options, all of which are FairTrade.

The cube seats are comfy, and the low tables and sugar jars a nice touch. Sunken from the road and away from traffic, this is a perfect place for therapy of coffee and colour. There is surely nowhere with a more chilled atmosphere.

This is a delightful place. A simple pleasure that may just brighten your day!

Went to Moon Dogs for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago on my own and was extremely impressed at the warm reception I was given.

The hot chocolate was great, defintely recommend this place for a nice chill out zone along with the great music and art.

They will be seeing me again:-)

Moondogs is the bestest!

The landlord and lady are wonderfully laid back. Craig (a very friendly and huge but unintimidating Scotsman) and Emma (his magnificently beaming other half) would welcome us in with a smile despite with our rather cumbersome 60 kilo pooch, Buster (who incidentally played a part in curing Craig of a fear of dogs).

Their coffee is very enjoyable and their shop incredibly comfortable. So much so that once entering, my brother, Buster and I immediately knew we would be tempted daily... and we were.

Every day the three of us (usually pub goers by religion) would sit in the relaxing leather armchairs or the snug couch and sip on the delicious coffee prepared with genuine love.

The regulars are all very nice, usually artistic and ‘nearly’ always sympathetic to animals.

I couldn’t recommend the place more. If you find yourself sitting in pubs realising that everybody gets drunk and talks rubbish twice as fast as you do and want a more positive way to unwind – for certain, Moondogs is the place.

Five star rating!

Welcome to Cosy Coffee Shops, a blog dedicated to seeking out terrific independent coffee houses. Some are particularly comfy and relaxing, some serve outstanding coffee, some have both. Many serve drinks that are ethically sourced (for example, Fairtrade). We've visited everywhere at least once. Read more about this blog...
