Kilimanjaro Coffee, Edinburgh

Another great independent coffee shop in Edinburgh.

So it turns out this renowned city is replete with cosy coffee shops.  There are plenty of diverse and interesting places, all serving high quality coffee, and Kilimanjaro is no exception.  It may not quite have the charm and uniqueness of The Elephant House or The Black Medicine Coffee Co., but it’s a smashing, welcoming place mixing up a great brew.

In fact, I had the weekend’s best cup of coffee in Kilimanjaro.  It was a flat white and it was fresh and stunning.  It was also perfectly presented.

And although this blog is about coffee, rather than food, I have to mention that the grub here is wonderful, and good value.

There are plenty of seats but this is a popular place and it can get busy.  That said, there’s no harm in just sipping a leisurely coffee and reading the papers.

There are the usual coffee options and some others (e.g. my delicious flat white), and all can be enjoyed right through to 7 pm.

For chatting with friends or visiting relatives I might plump for more captivating surroundings elsewhere in the city, but for a friendly smile and great coffee I’d go here.  Brilliant.

Kilimanjaro is my favourite coffee shop. The staff are nice.

Sat outside for 15 minutes sucking diesel and secondhand smoke, but if I’d realised it was counter service,I would have gone in and ordered.Maybe a small sign in the window, for the two pavement tables would be an idea? The coffee and chocolate brownie made the wait worthwhile.Excellent.

  5. There are only a small handful of coffee shops in Edinburgh where they take the care to deliver properly and patiently extracted espresso with milk stretched to 55-65 degrees (when it is at it’s sweetest).
This place is one, and it marvels in this regard while avoiding the pretentious nature of some of it’s counterparts.
The staff have always been very nice when I have been in and never seem to compromise on the standard or presentation of the food or beverages that leave the bar, even when the place is ridiculously busy.

Well worth a look if you’re in that part of Edinburgh. My personal recommendation is a flat white and a slice of brownie, that I am assured is made in-store. They apparently also bake their own scones daily but they always seem to be sold out when I visit.
