The Chocolate Café, Ramsbottom
|
This isn't the first time a chocolate-based place has made an appearance on Cosy Coffee Shops, and it probably won't be the last. |
Ramsbottom's Chocolate Café is on the first floor of a chocolate shop in the centre of town.
There is a "wait to be seated" policy. We were plonked by a window, presumably so passers-by would think it a busy and popular place. I expect this arrangement in a restaurant, but I don't like it in cafés, especially on quiet days (as it was).
The room is peaceful, rectangular and beige, with three rows of tables. I couldn't help but feel that it is going to waste, and would be livened up a treat with a less formal arrangement and some comfy chairs.
Strangely, the hot chocolate options are hidden away in the menu (again, have they missed a trick?). I tried a cappuccino, which was nice, and my companion had a hot chocolate, and said it was delicious. The service was very friendly.
The Chocolate Café is recommended, but it is not one of my favourites. As always, I write from the perspective of a person who loves comfy and characterful cafés. If your interests are broader, you'll probably enjoy your visit, as this place has plenty going for it.
On my day trip to Ramsbottom I had hoped also to visit The Cultured Bean on Bridge Street, but unfortunately it was unexpectedly closed. It looks great from the outside and has been recommended by readers. Hopefully I'll have chance one day to pop back. See http://www.theculturedbean.com.

Welcome to Cosy Coffee Shops, a blog dedicated to seeking out terrific independent coffee houses. Some are particularly comfy and relaxing, some serve outstanding coffee, some have both. Most serve drinks that are ethically sourced (for example, Fairtrade). We've visited everywhere at least once. Read more about this blog...
