LJ Coffee House, Soho, London
|
The third stop in my April visit to Soho and it's another superb independent coffee shop. This one has only been open for a few months. |
LJ Coffee House uses Union Handroasted beans (amongst my favourites). And here's a nugget of useless information: the particular blend is called "Revelation".
I ordered a latte which was delicious and beautifully presented. The signs say it's the "best coffee in London". I'm not sure, but it's one of the nicest cups I've had in the capital.
My companion had a chocolate milkshake (she's rarely a coffee drinker). Apparently it was superb, with real chocolate bits (high praise indeed from a lady who knows her milkshakes).
LJ is a gay coffee house, and fairly overtly so (see magazines, above!). The owners don't mind me using that description, but point out that, especially during the day, the café has a mixed clientelle (as we were testament to). After about 6pm there tends to be a more homosexual crowd.
Naturally, it is open to all, so it's a bit of a non-issue.
LJ is small and cosy, with comfy chairs and lips for window seats (you'll just have to visit to see what I mean). There are a couple of chairs outside.
It's a smashing place. Very friendly and relaxed, with coffee of the highest order.

Welcome to Cosy Coffee Shops, a blog dedicated to seeking out terrific independent coffee houses. Some are particularly comfy and relaxing, some serve outstanding coffee, some have both. Most serve drinks that are ethically sourced (for example, Fairtrade). We've visited everywhere at least once. Read more about this blog...
