Huffkins of Burford. Not a character from Whinnie the Pooh but a bakery and coffee shop on the edge of the Cotswolds.

Huffkins has been recommended by readers. Standing outside, I was a bit skeptical (which is a healthy attribute, by the way). There was a definite “is it or is it not a tea room?” moment.
Interestingly, there is a Huffkins tea room, but it’s next door and more or less a separate entity. The part I wandered in to is the more informal bakery and coffee shop.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the beans come from Union Handroasted (http://www.unionroasted.com/), a very well regarded roastery in London.
Despite the pedigree of the beans, I have to say my coffee was the least favourite of my long weekend away in the south west.

Come to think of it, I think it may have been a mistake to persist with hot drinks in the scorching weather.
Once again my partner took the sensible route of a cold chocolate milkshake, and when the friendly barista made a bit too much, she got the extra for free.

There’s a lovely courtyard with plenty of tables. Ideal for warm weather. We were joined by a teeny little bird who was hopping around trying to find something. It was too quick for the camera, despite my best efforts.
The inside is a bit functional… not very cosy. Perhaps that’s not unexpected in a touristy place like Burford (though don’t get me wrong, it’s a lovely town).

If you’re in this beautiful part of the world, Huffkins is a nice spot for a coffee and a sit-down in pleasant, bread-filled surroundings.
