The Mocha Lounge, Liverpool
|
On a rare visit to lovely Liverpool I popped into The Mocha Lounge for a morning coffee. |
It's a plush and palacious room set down from a quiet road.
There are chandeliers, an ornate mirror and rustic chairs and tables. It's a sort of art deco hideaway (ok, I can't say "art deco" without admitting I'm rubbish when it comes to architectural styles and am probably wrong -- ok, disclaimer over).

There are also modern sofas, plants and big shiny wall menus. It even has interesting doors leading to the toilets (what more could you want?).
All in all, an interesting mix of new and retro.

It was fairly empty when I visited (about midday on a Saturday). It felt a bit too large to be perfectly cosy, although there are plenty of spots for sitting and relaxing. Lots of comfy sofas... always a good thing.
My latte was really good, with some lovely latte art. As far as I can tell, the Mocha Lounge is supplied by the excellent Has Bean roastery (it certainly was in 2008 and I've seen nothing to suggest it isn't still... unfortunately I haven't been able to contact the owners by e-mail but I'll update this entry if I get some more details).

It's licenced and there are light bites for lunch, but it's still very much a place for coffee drinkers.

A very nice spot for a very nice hot mug of something. Unlike many places, it's large enough to be assured of a comfy seat in which to while away the hours.
Keeping in mind I've only been to a couple of the city's coffee shops, I'll tentatively suggest The Mocha Lounge serves the best coffee in Liverpool.

Welcome to Cosy Coffee Shops, a blog dedicated to seeking out terrific independent coffee houses. Some are particularly comfy and relaxing, some serve outstanding coffee, some have both. Most serve drinks that are ethically sourced (for example, Fairtrade). We've visited everywhere at least once. Read more about this blog...
