Coffee shops around the world

The bad news... Cosy Coffee Shops will not be updated between February and November 2010.

The good news (for me)... my partner and I are going travelling!

I've got to admit, coffee shops are not the purpose of our trip (shocking, I know). But it would be great to pop in to a few.

So, we'd love to know your recommendations for coffee shops worldwide.

Please use the comments box below.

Our trip (with more time in some places than others)...

Vietnam, Tokyo, Bali, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia (Sydney and Brisbane), Vanuatu, Easter Island, South America (Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina), Mexico and Cuba

Recommendations for elsewhere are welcome too.

Thanks everyone, and have a great year!

Tom

Anna Rowland :

Penny Farthing (Northcote - Melbourne, Austalia)owned by brothers Trevor and Steve delivers, in composition, flavour and presentation, the most exquisite coffee in what I consider the coffee capital of the world.

La Place in Hanoi!

Hong Kong:
'cafe habitu'. The best outlet is close to Times Square at 77 Leighton Road, causeway bay. Next to the GOD shop. quality and atmosphere
'Illy shop'. Ground flour/outside K11 building Tsim Sha Tsui. quality
'soft aroma' wing lok street 105, sheung wan. quality and atmosphere
'Barista caffe' 18 ashley rd 3rd floor E.A. tower Tsim Sha Tsui.
'Crema' behind the Regal Kowloon Hotel at Tsim Sha Tsui East. Owners had a barista training with musetti in italy. :)

Argentina: don't know much about the coffee over there but you should try the Bachata Rossa Restaurant around Buenos Aires North. Close to the Pan Americana. It is a cozy restaurant with the best wine and steak I have tasted in the world. Talking about atmosphere and quality this is top notch. :)

Hi-Su :

Go to Tokyo! Take the train to the station called "Suidobashi" and then go from there to Tokyo Dome City. Walk through there and you will come to a mall-come-themepark called "La Qua" (look for the roller coaster and the big wheel with no axis) You will find a MOOMIN CAFE there! all Moomin themed and littered with Moomin plushies, breads and cakes, its incredible!

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for that. I haven't left yet - still in Blighty. Due to go to Vanuatu in June (have to buy separate tickets from the rest of the trip - will do so soon). I'm guessing you've been! At present plan is about 12 days on Vanuatu, on tiny island near Efate and then about a week on Santo. I've heard Tanna is fantastic but not sure we can afford to go to three islands. What would you suggest? Tom

Carolyn :

A new coffee shop has opened on Berwick Street called Foxcroft and Ginger. They serve Monmouth Coffee and the food is pretty good too. Don't get me wrong Flat White and Milk Bar are delicious!
I am jealous you get to go to Vanuatu! Did you stay in Port Vila? Did you make it out out Tanna Island?

Welcome to Cosy Coffee Shops, a blog dedicated to seeking out terrific independent coffee houses. Some are particularly comfy and relaxing, some serve outstanding coffee, some have both. Most serve drinks that are ethically sourced (for example, Fairtrade). We've visited everywhere at least once. Read more about this blog...
