North West

Narrowbar Café, Penrith

Narrowbar is a tiny, chilled, friendly licenced café.

No. 15, Penrith

No. 15 (at 15, Victoria Road) is spacious, light and airy. It’s a relaxing place with generous mugs of coffee

Poppi Red, Hawkshead

Hawkshead is a stunning village and Poppi Red is the best option for relaxed coffee-sipping. Ideally, visit on sunny days, when you can sit on the terrace and watch passers-by pass by

The Apple Pie, Ambleside

The Apple Pie is a smashing place in the heart of the Lake District; it is highly recommended.

1657 Chocolate House, Kendal

A café that is (a) the epitome of quaint and (b) very very old (see title). There are a whole 18 varieties of hot chocolate; so that’s 17 more than almost everywhere else.

Church Gallery Coffee Lounge, Kirkby Stephen

This small, self-service coffee lounge is one of my favourites, and it is a good reason to visit Kirkby Stephen.

Café Pop, Manchester

Well, here we are, the first cosy café. It’s not a bad place to start, although also not exactly what I had in mind… comfy sofas and crackling firesides it ain’t. But it’s still a good coffee retreat.
