I emerged early morning from a grey car park into the generic Brunswick Shopping Centre, and noticed it is the place to congregate for many Scarborough-ites, even when the shops are closed. So I was surprised and heartened to discover that a really good coffee shop, just around the corner, is equally popular. |

Java is a smashing coffee bar. It's in the heart of equally smashing Whitby, but easy to miss. |

At the top of Pickering's main street is Caffé Stop, a haven for lovers of coffee and all types of hot drink. If you're arriving in picturesque Pickering on the steam train, look no further than here for a pick-me-up. |

This coffee house feels very "York"... it's small and cosy and it's shoved into a bridge over the Ouse. It's one of my favourite places to drink coffee in this great city. |

Beckindales is a large café in the Yorkshire Dales; the closest thing you'll get to a coffee house in this most tea-roomy corner of the world. |
|
This is a does-what-it-says-on-the-tin sort of café. It's small and straight-forward, and a very good place to sip coffee in Richmond. |
|
La Place Verte is a Belgian coffee house. It's a super place and a little bit different from the other cafés in York. |
|
The Habit is one of a few places to get a coffee on Goodramgate and is set in a building that used to be owned by the clergy (hence the name). |

It's a cold and wet February lunchtime outside. Inside, it's cheery and orange. Don't go in without your sunglasses. |

The Coffee Shop can be a little gloomy but it's in an excellent spot (right by the Minster) and it does good coffee and ice cream. |

This is nice little café, deserving a mention thanks to the award-winning farm shop under the same roof. |

The Coffee Bean is a coffee shop hidden away in central Richmond. The building was once a printing works owned by John Bell. |

This tiny café is part of Reeth's equally tiny bakery. It's more or less someone's living room. |

Hemingways stretches the definition of a coffee house, but despite being tea-room-like it's just about worthy of a mention. |

This art gallery and café is in the small village of Grosmont in the North Yorkshire Moors. The best way to get there is via the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the famous steam train line. The nearest stop is just across the road. |
