Top 10 Coffee Shops for 2010

2009 was a successful one for British coffee and coffee shops. Gwilym Davies brought home the title of World Barista Champion and great independent coffee shops seem to be arriving thick and fast (particularly in London).  If this blog's readership is anything to go by, it seems more and more people are enjoying independent coffee shops.

For me, I feel 2009 was the year when I started to understand what constitutes great coffee.

But, as always, Cosy Coffee Shops is not just about coffee, it's also about comfy, charming, friendly coffee shops.  So with that in mind, I've nailed my colours to the mast with my first Top 10, for 2010.  A difficult thing to do.

Tina, We Salute You, London

1   Tina, We Salute You, London

Combining faultless coffee with style, friendliness, character, charm, a comfy sofa and decor which changes every 8 weeks is Tina, We Salute You.  I fell in love on my first visit.

5   Coffee Culture, York

The coffee isn't amazing, but in all other ways this is all I want in a coffee shop.  The comfy seats, the rickity building and the friendy staff make this one of my favourites.

There are many more great coffee shops, including some I have yet to visit. Hopefully this list is a good starting-point, if nothing more.

Happy hunting.

My favourite coffee shop is The Apple Tree at Barton Marina, near to Burton upon Trent in Staffordshire.

The coffee is just perfect everytime, and not suprisingly they are very popular. It is run by a young couple who are very hospital and all the staff are well trained! They offer a great range of teas and coffees and have a healthy lunch menu. They also have a deli with cheese and olives and fine foods and homemade cakes to die for!

I read recently they were named by the Guardian as one of the best coffee shops in the country, and they have their very important five stars!

The atmosphere is old and grand, and the large panoramic windows give a great view of the marina and the boats chunting by. It's a perfect place to escape to!

If you havn't been then you must go, but don't take my seat!

Well done on your great reviews, I'm getting around to checking them out!

Hi there, I think you guys have got to check out this new gourmet coffee Espresso Bar in Leeds.

It's run by a real Italian guy from Milan who has set up created a great athmosphere and serve an espresso that I have only tasted in italy. Opposite cafe is no longer the only espresso in town.

It's in the calls area and it's called La Bottega Milanese, they have a website too I think.

Congratulations for your good guides
